The illiterate farmer has been set thinking by Lena, a young teacher who comes to give him lessons at home, on the farm. Keet, Brand's suspicious wife, keeps a close eye on both of them, because she sees that her husband has fallen in love with the girl from the city. As time goes on, a dark plan takes shape in Keet's mind. Her manipulations are not without their consequences.

Alex van Warmerdam
Writer, designer, director and actor Alex van Warmerdam was born in 1952 in Haarlem. After studying at the Graphic School he went on to train at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, and was co-founder of the legendary theatre companies Hauser Orkater and The Mexican Dog. Besides his many film prizes, he was awarded the prestigious Prince Bernhard Prize for Culture for his entire theatre and film oeuvre and the Dutch/Flemish Theatre Writers Prize.
He made his directorial debut with The Townee in 1984.
